Sabarimala Temple, SabarimalaSabarimala is one pilgrimage destination in Kerala, India that does not discriminate between devotees belonging to different castes, creeds or color. What it does call for from its devotees in India and abroad is a return to austerity and reenactment of penance. Penance that Sabari endured in order to meet Lord Ram and be able to worship and feed him like the people belonging to upper 'refined' caste could.
Set atop the rugged topography and evergreen forest of Western Ghats, the village of Sabarimala is home to the holy shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa.

Sabarimala Temple
Named after Sabari, the temple is devoted to the reverence of Lord Ayyappa. Worshipped by the Kerala Hindus, Sabarimala Temple, South India hosts many festivals and religious ceremonies including Sabarimala Temple Festival, Mandal Puja and Makar Sankranti Puja. The devotees have to dress down in a modest dhoti and carry a small basket of offerings on their heads. The bundle contains coconut filled with ghee, camphor and rice and is known as 'Iru Mudi' that literally means two-folds.
Barefoot and undergoing self-imposed harsh living conditions, devotees
of Lord Ayyappa negotiate the last 18 steps of the temple with unflinching
dedication to reach the Neeli hills summit and offer their prayers to
Lord Ayyappa. The three day long journey, through the rugged and thickly
forested hill slopes, comes to an exalting end where penance gives way
to acceptance.
